18 weeks

This morning I brushed Emily's hair up so I could see the cradle cap that I need to treat. She just looked so cute I couldn't resist a picture!

4 months

I'm a little late on this post because we spent the weekend at my parents' house (even though they weren't there!). Emily's 4 month birthday started with a present from Aunt Jenni--cute overalls (with an attached horse) and The Tale of the Three Trees (in board book form!).

We took Emily to get pictures taken at Sears. While it wasn't the best experience, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt because it was middle of the day on Saturday. Next time I'll go on a weekday. We did end up getting a good picture so I'm thankful for that.

After the long "experience" at Sears, Emily was fussy, but slept on the way home to my parents' house. Because she was asleep when we got there, we decided that I would go to Walmart and Lowe's and Phillip would stay home with Emily. Well, we did that, but Emily wasn't exactly pleased with the arrangements. Phillip did okay for his first time alone with Emily, but did learn some lessons. I arrived home about 2 hours later and tried to calm her down, but she was so out of her routine that she was just fussy. I took her for a walk (in the Umbroller that my mom used for me and Jenni!) so Phillip could have a bit of calm. Neither she nor I slept well Saturday night.

Sunday, we enjoyed church at Highland then took Granddaddy to lunch. We tried to rest Sunday afternoon after going to JCPenney, but that didn't go very well either. We finally got smart and moved the crib into another room and everyone slept well Sunday night.

Monday was MOPS for me and Emily. Emily slept beautifully in Karen's arms so I was able to listen as Summer talked about birthday parties...planning, ideas, etc. I got a lot of ideas that I hope to use in the next few years.

Today brought a doctor appointment for Emily. She did great, even though we had to wait a long time. She weighs 13 lb 2 oz and is 25" long. She's growing so well! She got shots again, but didn't cry too much...I remembered to bring in her pacifier this time! She slept most of today and now we face the challenge of trying to give her vitamins every day. Tonight's attempt resulted in her throwing up what I had just fed her. I can't really blame her...I gag at the smell of the iron too. We'll try something different tomorrow night. (If you have any great success stories, I'd love to hear them! Our next attempt will be mixing the vitamins with milk in a bottle.)

And, now for the picture. What a cutie!

Priceless

I laid Emily down for a nap this morning and gave her her pacifier as I usually do. Within seconds, this is what she looked like!

17 weeks

I found Emily sleeping like this the other day and could not resist!

I was playing with the settings on our camera and seeing what "Night" does. Apparently, it does wierd things with seemingly normal settings! I took this at the football game Friday night.

Sunday afternoon is not complete at our house (usually) without a few naps.

And, finally, our baby is 17 weeks old! Saturday, she'll be 4 months old. Where has the time gone?

Challenge

Mary at Owlhaven gave this challenge...go to your pictures folder, open the sixth file folder and post the sixth picture. I chose to be a little more specific because of the way my pictures are organized. I chose the sixth folder in my 2008 folder. This is out old house in Mesquite.

If you decide to take the challenge too, leave the address of your post on my comments.

16 weeks

This week has been rather calm. Emily doesn't like being on her back so she'll roll to her tummy, but then she gets mad because she's on her tummy! Now that she's figured out how to go from her back to her tummy, I think she's forgotten how to go the other way! Since Sunday, I don't think she's gone from her tummy to her back once! (Sunday she was going back and forth from back to tummy and tummy to back all on her own.) We had dinner with my parents in Coleman last night and made Emily perform for them. Not the best circumstances, but the back of our Pilot worked just fine in a pinch.

I was playing with my camera to see if I could take a bunch of shots sequentially, but I can't figure out how to do it automatically, so here's what I came up with manually. (and, yes, the last row is the same as the first...Picasa has to have a certain number of pictures!)

I like to call this one "Papa's got me, but I've got my bib." (Notice how she's holding her bib, even in her sleep!)

And, last but not least, "Papa's little angel."

Wants

I don't know why, but in the last couple weeks, I've really wanted to try other styles of cloth diapers. Being me, though, I'm hesitant enough to try something new...especially when I have to pay for it! Right now, we've been using prefolds and Thirsties covers. They work great, so why do I feel the desire to try something new? I guess I just want to see what else is out there. I've been watching Zwaggle to see if there are any used cloth diapers out there I can get for only shipping cost. There's a set of pocket diapers out there that would only be about $5 for the pair, but still I hesitate. I guess I just don't like the risk...what if I don't like them? How will I incorporate them into my daily use? Dumb questions, I'm sure, but still they (and my desire to try something new) persist.

Any suggestions?

Rolling, rolling, rolling

Our little munchkin is so strong! Tonight she successfully completed this difficult task three times--all within about 10 minutes!

She's rolled from back to tummy and tummy to back about the same number of times now. From what I've read, babies don't usually roll from their back to their tummy until about six months. Shows what I've known all along...Emily is gifted!

Curtains

Back on this post, I mentioned I had bought fabric for curtains. Well, here are the finished products. They turned out a bit shorter than I had hoped, but I still think they look ok. (Note to self, when washing fabrics before sewing, always use FrayCheck on the edges!)

15 weeks

Yesterday, Emily turned 15 weeks old. Wow! How quickly it has gone by. She is now able to roll from her tummy to her back (though she still doesn't do it often) and she grins like crazy!

The other day, my mom said something about seeing Emily's profile...the one we fell in love with in the sonogram picture below. I thought I'd try to capture it today while she was sleeping. Just look at that nose!

Homecoming & more

Last Friday was homecoming at Panther Creek. I got my first mum (yes, ever!)!

Emily and I went up for the pep rally. Obviously, she wasn't impressed.

But, she settled down and stayed like this for the rest of the pep rally.

Everyone was all decked out for Homecoming. including this adorable pre-K girl!

I found this picture on my phone from a month ago and just had to share it. Emily's helping Grandpa work!

I just love how Emily is admiring the bib that Aunt Jenni bought her last week!

That's about it for now. This week should be fairly calm since there's no football game, but you never know!

Weekend visit in pictures

This week, my dad had a conference in Dallas. Emily and I went with him and Mom. To keep from having extra cars, they came to Panther Creek Friday night in time for the first home football game. Before the game, Emily had to show off...she can (and loves) to stand!

All dressed and ready to go to church at Preston Road. Doesn't she look adorable!

Emily was so tired Sunday night that she was starting to fall asleep in the Bumbo. It was adorable and gave us lots of laughs! (Yes, we eventually put her down for a nap.)

She's getting so strong now. She can push up for a minute or two now.

Aunt Jenni loves to love on Emily and read several stories to her.

Aunt Jenni has this Cookie Monster cookie jar that we had given our grandparents many years ago. One day, maybe Emily will get cookies out of it.

Emily loves Aunt Jenni, really. But, I think sometimes we just catch the "I'm sick of taking pictures" look!

While at Aunt Jenni's house, Emily turned 14 weeks and rolled from her back to her tummy and started giggling. She looks like such a big girl in this picture!

While in Dallas, Mom and I spent two and a half hours at JoAnn picking out fabrics for a new high chair pad and a portable high chair sling (Mom's projects) and kitchen curtains and "curtains" for the sides of the Pack n Play (my projects). We shopped several other places and Emily was so cooperative. I think we bought everything that was on our list! Well, that's about it for the weekend recap. Thanks for reading through the mundane.

Three months

I can't believe it's been three months already!
To celebrate Emily's birthday, the three of us and my parents went to the West Texas Fair & Rodeo. We had lots of fun eating, walking around and seeing the exhibits and entries and going to the Rodeo. Emily even cooperated, though she never slept. Such is life. She has slept well today so I guess she isn't too worn out!
Grandpa trying to feed Emily at the Fair. She never would settle down for him to feed her.

My favorite of the ones that didn't make the cut--just look at those eyes!

This was Emily's mid-morning nap today. How precious!

13 weeks

This week, Emily and I went to our first MOPS meeting at Highland. It wa a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to spending time with other moms (and my own--Mom is a MOPS mentor). If you're a mother of a preschooler, I would encourage you to find the nearest group to join!

12 weeks

Yesterday was another Abilene trip. After running errands, my mom and I headed back to her house before Emily needed to eat again. We had Emily on a blanket on the floor and were giving her some tummy time. Emily decided she'd had enough and pushed herself onto her back. Yes, that's right....she rolled onto her back!!! She hasn't done it again since then, but I know it's only a matter of time!

Talking

I caught Emily "talking" this afternoon. Enjoy!

Labor Day weekend

Busy weekend!!

Friday was my Mom's birthday and my parents and sister were coming for the weekend, so Emily helped me make a cake for Pearlie.

Friday night was the first football game. We drove to Blanket, expecting Emily to wake up once we got there. No! This is how she stayed from 5:45 to 10:15 when we got to Cici's in Brownwood after the game.

Then, we got this Emily until we got home.

Saturday afternoon, Jenni helped me put together Emily's crib. We had to wait for the side that had been damaged in the move to get fixed before we could finally put it together. She didn't seem to mind sleeping in the Pack n Play until now. I have to say a big thanks to Cara and her mom for the bedding. It looks great!!! Emily sleeps well in her new bed and looks so small in it!

Finally, Pearlie got some playtime with Emily.

All in all, it was a full, but great weekend with family.
