27 weeks

At 27 weeks, Anna is starting to like cereal. She's also been having to get used to formula that we mix the cereal with, so two adjustments at once. But, tonight was a great success and she couldn't get enough! She's starting to sit up by herself if we prop her up and is reaching for everything in sight. Last night she slept in her room for the first time and slept from 8:30 pm to 5:00 am. (Of course, she hadn't slept more than 30 minutes at a time yesterday, but I still enjoyed the semi-sleep.) However, she's been very fussy today and wouldn't take a nap in her crib so I strapped her on in my Beco and she slept for about an hour. Teething perhaps? We'll see.

Sandwich Contest

Jessica from Life as Mom has a food blog that I love reading. It's called Good Cheap Eats. Right now, she's in a contest through Kraft to share some great sandwiches from across the US. Since we own a sandwich shop, I though, naturally, that we should enter! I didn't pay close attention to timing, so, unfortunately, I don't have a picture of our best seller, but here's the ingredients!

Starting at noon on June 26 (Sunday), go vote for The Oklahoma Kid to win. Voting will close at midnight on June 29 (Wednesday). If I win, Jessica can submit our sandwich, along with her recipe, to Kraft.

The Oklahoma Kid

2 slices homemade sourdough bread
3 ounces cooked chicken breast, sliced
1 ounce Monterey Jack cheese
1/2 avocado, sliced
1 ounce Thousand Island dressing

Arrange the chicken and cheese on one slice of bread. Toast it to melt the cheese. Top with the avocado, dressing and second slice of bread. Enjoy!

Anna's 6 months stats

We had a good (but long wait) visit at the doctor this morning. Anna weighs 13.11 pounds, just .11 pounds more than a month ago. That puts her in the 5th percentile. However, she's in the 89th percentile for height at 27". The doctor isn't really concerned about her weight, but we do need to watch it closely because there's not much margin there. So, we'll start using formula to make her cereal, instead of water. Overall, though, she's healthy!

26 weeks/6 months

Yesterday was Anna's six month birthday. So, we celebrated Father's Day. :-) We also started her on cereal. She couldn't get enough and was helping Phillip put the spoon in her mouth. You'd think she'd been using a spoon for months!

This was the face when we finished! She would have eaten much more if we'd given it to her!

If I remember, I'll post her stats after our doctor appointment tomorrow. However, seeing as there are only about 5 people who read this who care about that, I may forget!

Emily's 3rd birthday

Last Saturday, my baby turned 3. How did that happen!?! Well, it did, so we celebrated! She's been enjoying WordWorld and Mickey Mouse in the past year and I didn't want to do Mickey so I used my executive decision making skills (for one more year, anyway!) and chose WordWorld for her. She really did enjoy looking at her "party" (WordWorld confetti) on my "patuter" (computer).

The highlights of the day were a camera from Aunt Jenni and a tricycle from Grandma & Grandpa. The camera has been in constant use and she desperately wants to ride her tricycle all the time...it's just so hot!

I couldn't have a post without a picture of Anna. She wanted to ride Trigger so Pearlie helped her.

Ok, back to the busy-ness of the real world!

25 weeks

Yesterday was Emily's birthday and I will post about that as soon as I get the pictures from our official family photographer (Jenni).

But, today Anna is 25 weeks and she's pulling for the Mavs tonight. I finally got around to washing all the 3-6 month clothes (just something about refreshing them after they've been in storage for two years!) and found the Mavs outfit, just in time. If they win tonight, it's over, so she had to wear it today.

As I mentioned last week, Anna has started sucking her thumb occasionally, mostly in bed. I finally managed to catch her in the act.

600 Muffins

Yesterday we went to the library to sign Emily up for the summer reading program. It's been months since we went to the library (pre-Anna, actually), but this was enough to get us there. Knowing that Emily can get prizes for going to the library...great!

But, that's not really what this post is about. I've seen several people (including Quick and Easy Cheap and Healthy) talking about Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day and I wondered what all the fuss was about. So, I decided to look for the book while we were at the library. I wasn't overly impressed with that book (I just don't make or want to make fancy "artisan" bread), but I saw this book.

Since muffins have become a good snack for me (and I've really enjoyed making them!), I was intrigued and checked it out. Out of the 100 or so muffin recipes (and 500 variations), I picked out 24 that sounded good enough to copy the recipe to try. (Not sure how many variations there are of the 24 I picked out, but I'm guessing 4-6 per recipe.) Some are what I typically think of as muffins--sweet, breakfast goodies5--but others are savory like Roasted Garlic Muffins and Pizza Muffins and Potato Muffins. I can't promise I'll post about all the recipes, but I may post about some of my favorites.
